3 Reasons To Make Being Healthy Easy.

Making a lifestyle change is hard. It’s hard to know where to start and what to start with. I’ve learned the hard way. Beginning with the easiest steps first, is the only way to do it. Here’s why.

We often won’t try something hard.

If someone were to come up to me right now and ask me to run a half marathon with them, I would laugh. I can barely run a mile. Much less 13. The idea of running that long is to hard, so I dismiss it before I even try.

If instead, someone asked me to run with them 10 minutes, I’d say sure. Running for 10 minutes takes up so little of my day and so little effort. I would hardly know I did it.

Having a goal and meeting it, gives us a sense of accomplishment. That feeling of accomplishment, will motivate us to accomplish more.

Take a half marathon, an impossible thing for me to accomplish today, and break it down into something small-running for 10 minutes everyday next week-if I stick with it, by Friday, I’ll be feeling proud. Next week, bump it up to 15 minutes. Do that each week and eventually I’ll be running those 13 miles.

Taking something hard, and breaking it down into easy tasks that we know we can perform is the best way to tackle something big, like running a half marathon.

It needs to fit in our daily routine.

Before we try and change our entire routine, what is something easy that we can do, in place of something that we already do?

We’ve established that accomplishing something easy, motivates us towards accomplishing the hard things. If you will, think of the easiest thing you could do that will make you feel healthier. Maybe it’s getting up 15 minutes earlier, or exercising for 10 minutes, or maybe you could swap out that afternoon soda for an extra glass of water.

Whatever it is, no matter how small, it’s going to get you closer to living a healthier lifestyle.

We’re busy

We’re all busy. We don’t have time to study new diet plans or for complicated meals. So what do we do?

Planning ahead may take some initial time to put together, but once in place, it isn’t difficult to stick with.

A few things that I am doing, is:

  • Creating a list of quick, easy recipes to refer to. (I can’t wait to share them with you.)
  • Having go-to-snacks.
  • Keeping a water bottle with me.

By making healthy choices easy for me to choose, I’m more likely to choose something healthy.

One simple change

We underestimate what one simple change can do. When I added concentrated whole food nutrition to my daily routine, it created a catalyst for change that still amazes me. I get more veg in on a daily basis than I used to get in a week. I drink a half gallon of water everyday. I go to the gym 3-5 days a week, and it all started with one little change.

So if you don’t have time, (and who does) for a 360 degree turn around in your lifestyle, don’t get discouraged. You can make the change, but you’ve gotta have grace for yourself and start with one thing at a time. Start with the easiest things first and work up to those harder things.
